CinéFile terms of use

Last updated 7 September 2026 · Privacy

What CinéFile is

CinéFile is a record of the television you have seen and what you thought of it, kept on your phone with a copy in our database so it can be restored and, where you allow it, shared with people you follow. By using the app you agree to these terms.

Your record

Your Record is yours. We store it to serve it back to you and to the people your privacy setting allows. We do not sell it, show ads against it, or use it to train models. You can export it as a file at any time and delete it entirely from Settings. See the privacy page for what is stored and what identifies you.

Handles, names and messages

When you claim a handle, choose a display name, write a taste line, name a group deck or send a message, other people may read it. You agree not to post anything that is hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, or that impersonates someone else. Text that breaks this rule is refused before it is stored, and any account that keeps trying is removed. Handles are first come, first served; a handle that impersonates a person or a brand may be reassigned.

Objectionable content and abuse

Every person page and message row carries Block and Report. Blocking hides you from each other everywhere in the app at once. A report reaches the person who runs CinéFile, is read, and is acted on within 24 hours — content that breaks these terms is removed and the account responsible is ejected. You can also write to the address below.

Third-party content

Show artwork, summaries, dates and ratings come from TMDB and TVmaze under their terms. Trailers and themes play through official YouTube and Spotify embeds, which are governed by those services' own terms when you play them. This application uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB.

What we do not promise

CinéFile is provided as it is. We work to keep your record safe and the app running, but we cannot guarantee that it will always be available or free of mistakes, and we are not liable for losses that follow from its use, to the extent the law allows. The app is not intended for children under 13.

Changes and ending

We may change these terms; the date above moves when we do, and a change that matters is announced in the app. You can stop using CinéFile at any time and delete your record from Settings. We may end access for an account that breaks these terms.
